Yew
Welcome to Yew Class. We are a mixed Key Stage 2 class following the pre-formal pathway. Our class team consists of Lauren (Teacher), Emma (Teaching Assistant), and our Individual Support Assistants, Sam and Denise.
We provide a highly individualised approach to learning, offering a range of experiences both within and beyond the classroom. Through sensory play, hands-on exploration, occupational therapy activities and focused one-to-one support, pupils develop the fundamental skills needed to thrive and achieve their potential.
This half term, our topic is All About Me. We have had lots of fun discovering more about ourselves by examining our facial features, engaging our senses and comparing our school and home families. Pupils have been busy constructing their own school using foam bricks, creating self-portraits with a variety of materials, and taking part in imaginative role-play using Mr Potato Head and Happy Land characters.
In English, we have been exploring books linked to our All About Me topic, with a particular focus on family and friends. Through stories such as The Family Book by Todd Parr and Sharing by Yusuke Yonezu, pupils are building on their awareness of families and the people who support and care for them through role-play, individualised learning and practical experiences.
In Maths, our focus for this half term is time. Pupils have been developing their understanding of daily routines and looking at activities we do throughout the day, identifying and exploring what happens in the morning and at night They are also building awareness of key time concepts, including now and next and start and stop. In addition, we have been introducing the days of the week and exploring how routines change over time.
