Welcome to Explorer 5. We are a Key Stage 1 class. Tammy is our class teacher. Debbie is the TA. Natalie and Jemma are the ISAs.

Autumn 2:

I have read the stories ‘I Went Walking’ by Sue Williams, ‘Dinosaur Dreams’ by Allan Alhberg, and ‘Polar Bear What do you Hear’ by Bill Martin Jr/Eric Carle. Our learning has been about all about repetitive phrases in the stories. We have also joined in with re-telling the stories using puppets, explored small world activities, completed pencil control activities and fine motor activities with playdough.

In Maths, we have been focusing on matching objects, making sets and sorting by a given criteria. We have enjoyed exploring concrete resources and have been able to independently match and sort objects and pictures by colour, object and shape.

Our Topic focus has been very exciting, we have enjoyed learning all about ‘Winter Wonderland’ this half term. We have been completing a wide range of activities about winter and cold climates, including taking part in roleplay, wearing items of clothing worn in winter, exploring what animals live in cold climates using small world activities and experimenting what happens when ice melts. We also enjoyed a trip to the Snowdome to experience sledging, snowplay, a pantomime and seeing a range of winter animals. During the last week of school, we continued with our topic theme by enjoying the Paddington Snowglobe, a visit from Santa, Christmas Dinner and lots of fun Christmas themed activities.

We have also enjoyed our Forest School sessions, tasting/eating hotdogs cooked on the fire, jumping in Autumn leaves and enjoyed sand, mud and water play and explored our outdoor classroom/trim trail areas.

Spring 1:

Next half term our Topic is ‘The Circus’.

Reminders:

Forest school is on a Wednesday, so please send a change of clothes incase your child gets wet or muddy.

• • PE is also on a Wednesday so please come into school in your PE kit.
  • Library books will be changed every Wednesday/Thursday, please ensure they are in your child’s bag.
  • Please send reading sheets and reading records back in every day. We try to ensure reading sheets are changed once a week.
  • Please label ALL of your child’s belongings.
