Class overview

Welcome to Discoverer 2. We are an upper Key stage 2 class. Our class teacher is Vicki. Our teaching assistant is Aprille.  Dawn and Joe are our ISAs.

Spring 1:

Maths

In maths we have used our knowledge on measure and the children were able to calculate the perimeter on different shapes. We have also been learning to recognise equal groups and how to use arrays whilst looking at multiplication and division. The children have been amazing at looking at their 2’s, 3’s,4’s 5’s, 8’s and 10 times tables.

English

In English we’ve been exploring the book “Instructions” by Neil Garman, where the children enthusiastically learned to identify instructions in both fiction and nonfiction texts. We’ve tackled contractions and possessive apostrophes, and confidently crafted their own detailed instructions for a fairy tale map!

Science

In Science we have delved into the fascinating world of materials and recycling, comparing and sorting recyclable items. We’ve been exploring industrial processes with magnets and investigating methods for separating sand from metal filings, liquids from solids through filtering, sieving, and evaporating, all while examining the recycling efforts at our school.

Topic

During this half term we have embraced our roles as eco warriors. We have examined the recycling practices at our school and in the local community. Additionally, we have brainstormed other ways to help protect our planet. We have also explored various countries and noted the significant differences in their climates.

We have concluded this term with Kindness and E-Safety Week. Discoverer 2 has made a pledge to practice kindness starting this week. Parents and staff have expressed how wonderful the children have been. Additionally, we have included discussions on how to demonstrate kindness while staying safe online. 

Spring 2:

Discoverers Spring 2 term topic is WW2 and in Science we will be looking at Light and sound.
